The Handsome Family's version of "Blackwatertown", a rewriting by Paul Muldoon of "The Streets of Laredo" (itself a rewriting of "The Bard of Armagh"), is included on the CD accompanying The Rose and the Briar: Death, Love and Liberty in the American Ballad (Norton) edited by Sean Wilentz and Greil Marcus. The CD was released by Sony in November 2004.

A new production of Vera of Las Vegas, directed by Annilese Miskimmon for the Opera Theatre Company opened in Sligo on November 20 2004, touring Bray (Nov 23), Limerick (Nov 25), Cork (Nov 27), Galway (Nov 29) and Dublin (December 2 and 4).
The New York premiere of Vera of Las Vegas was held on June 26 and 27 2003 at the Nimoy Thalia Theater at Symphony Space.
Vera of Las Vegas has all the familiar discontinuities and semantic broken lines, and it seems to me easily the best of Muldoon's libretti to date. It is a magnificently mixed genre: a chorus of dancers, strippers and flight attendants utter great and plangent truths against the Beckettian foreground of two IRA ex-volunteers who are now illegal immigrants in the United States. The range of reference is dizzying; the central one, spelt out right away, is with The Crying Game. This allusive web of Yeats's "Long-Legged Fly", "Ozymandias" and Heart of Darkness is set both in Las Vegas and the world of Asterix. The extraordinary thing, though, is that it is all remarkably clear (I almost said realistic) by Muldoon's standards, a powerful and ultimately serious dramatization of the dilemmas in post-Troubles Northern Ireland. (Bernard O'Donoghue, TLS).

Paul Muldoon and Warren Zevon

Bruce Springsteen's live version of "My Ride's Here", a song co-written by Warren Zevon and Paul Muldoon, is included on Enjoy Every Sandwich: The Songs of Warren Zevon, released by Artemis in October 2004.
Warren Zevon's album from Artemis Records was listed by Rolling Stone as one of the best of the year 2002. The title song was co-written by Warren Zevon and Paul Muldoon.
That ride can wait: Zevon, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer after releasing this album, is busy making one last record. Here he writes and sings with barbed class of how to go with style and a smile, particularly in the title song, in which Zevon imagines himself bound for glory with such luminaries as Jesus, Lord Byron and John Wayne for company. (D.F. Rolling Stone)
"The poetry collection by Paul Muldoon, POEMS 1968-1998 is quite stunning I think. Such a broad scope of work, deft and light of touch." (Pete Townshend, Observer Books of the Year)
Paul Muldoon's music publishing company is registered with The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
